Project: 2016

The main idea behind the design of Dworcowy Square was to maintain its format, linearity, continuity and quite unusual shape, while emphasizing and separating "sub-squares", mainly due to graphic treatments (various types of floors, lighting in the floor, arrangement of greenery and water). This resulted in the intended sequence of smaller squares assigned to tectonically separated fragments of the existing buildings of the Dworcowy Square frontage. Each of them is a kind of matrix for the location of the function and arrangement coupled with the function of the adjacent building, and at the same time allows you to combine them if necessary and arrange special events and also events requiring the entire space of the square (fairs, concerts, space installations, fairs, city markets, exhibitions outdoor events, happenings, "flesh mob" events, etc.)

In the linear sequence of "sub-squares" separated by green belts while preserving existing trees, with the simultaneous planting of medium and high greenery, the space at the closure of Dyrekcyjna St., in front of the highest, five-storey fragment of the Old Railway Station, will be the dominant one. Due to the elevation of its ground floor, it is proposed to open it with a glass arcade to the elevated plateau designed in front of it, with stairs leading to the square. The plane of the representative foreground to the entrance to a significant building will be an occasional scene of urban events - music concerts, film projections, theater and cabaret performances, fashion shows - directed at viewers gathered on the Dworcowy Square. It is expected that this part of the square will be covered with a roof made of translucent polyethrafluoroethylene membrane, on a fiberglass mesh, coated with Teflon, stretched on a steel post-tension structure. The "sub-square" thus conceived will constitute, in fact and figuratively, the vibrant heart of the city.
