Myslowice, Fabryczna 6 St
Project: 2001
Built: 2002

The DBT Polska company, located so far in the decapitalized relics of the Mysłowice industrial district, remembering the era of the success of socialism, decided in 2001 to create a headquarters according to their considerable production achievements. Production of heavy steel housings related to the mining industry requires a lot of precision. We tried to express this specific duality in the newly designed building. Solid materials were used - raw concrete, steel, titanium-zinc sheet formed in way so that their severity and specific coarseness are visible. Wood glued roof construction, mahogany plywood on the facade, windows together with wooden veneers of partition walls and furniture, all in natural colors, soften the brutality of the basic building material. The combination of high-quality Swedish lighting fixtures with imperfectly finished concrete gives the desired tension effect. Similarly, high-grade titanium-zinc sheet hand-knotted on the facade is naturally slightly folded. This makes the touch of the hand of the craftsman legible.
